- Counsellor - Adults and Children
Yvonne is a fully qualified person-centred humanistic counsellor and registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) with four years post qualifying experience with both adults and children.
Yvonne has worked for NHS contracts through a national charity, has worked with bereavement for both adults and children, has carried out outreach work with parents, has worked as a school counsellor and currently works with adult survivors of abuse. Prior to counselling, Yvonne has worked extensively in her career since 2003 in a variety of social care settings including the voluntary and statutory sectors with both adults and families.
‘My intention as a counsellor is to place the client at the centre of my practice, offering an empathic therapeutic environment, which facilitates a space to explore worry, anxiety and life choices in a person centred way. My approach is not a ‘one size fits all’ and will be adaptive to the client needs and their personality, which enables us to work together in a manner that works and empowers the individual. With this in mind, my practice can incorporate creative ideas of working, which can be positively beneficial in engaging those who may struggle to vocalise thoughts and feelings verbally in particular children and young people’.
I work in an integrative manner whereby I implement other therapy modalities such as brief solution focused therapy, and CBT, alongside development of healthy coping strategies. My aim is to enable you to leave the counselling sessions with an emotional toolkit to support you in resilience and development of your own personal autonomy.
With children and young people, I aim to work in a relaxed approachable manner to hold a space in which they can understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these might be impacting on their life and emotions. Sometimes it can be beneficial to hold a session with both child and parent together to mediate and work through conflict or purely just to gain a greater insight into understanding one another.
In my counselling practice, I have worked extensively with depression, anxiety, self -esteem, confidence, bereavement, self-harm and childhood issues as well as past and present abuse and continue to further develop my knowledge through ongoing continued professional development.
