Counselling for Individuals

Counselling allows you to talk about your problems, worries and concerns and can help you to deal with and overcome issues that are causing pain or making you unhappy.

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings to a person trained to listen, in a safe, confidential and reliable environment.

When things are going well, we feel good about ourselves, we feel comfortable with other people, and we can meet the demands of life. But sometimes we go through difficult times in our lives or we may experience feelings which concern us - grief, fear, loneliness, anger or guilt. You may be going through a crisis such as bereavement or a sudden change in a relationship or work.  Or it may be that a situation which has gone on for some time suddenly seems unbearable and everything’s getting on top of you.

At these times you may want some help to sort out the problem. Counselling can help you to make sense of what is happening to you and support you through crises in your life.

What does it involve?

At your first meeting, the counsellor will discuss your situation with you to find out if counselling can give you the help you need.   During this meeting, the process and expectations of counselling and the relationship between the counsellor and client will be outlined and agreed.

During your counselling sessions, you will be encouraged to express your feelings and emotions freely.   The counsellor is there to support you and respect your views and to give you the time to talk through your situation.   By discussing your concerns with you, the counsellor can help you to gain a better insight and understanding of your own feelings and what is happening in your life, as well as helping you to identify ways of finding solutions to your problems.
